Are you looking for ways to use your creativity and social skills to support your local community? St Barnabas in Knowle West is looking for safe hangout space volunteers to help facilitate fun and engaging activities for 8-15 year olds including sports, crafts, games and chill and chat.  

We welcome anyone 18+ from all educational backgrounds. If you are looking for a professional development opportunity in youth work or simply want to make a positive impact in the lives of young people, this volunteering role is for you! 

 

A number of roles are available  

Weekly hours: Mondays 17:30-19:45 (activity is 18:00-19:30pm) 

Location: St Barnabas Knowle West, Daventry Road Knowle West Bristol, BS4 1DQ 

This volunteering role will start in June due to renovation work at the church. 

 

There are various things you could do to help and this could be anything from the list below

  • Support the delivery of crafts and games for young people in the church’s spaces 

  •  There is also the opportunity to bring a craft to teach if you would like to offer this on occasion- this can be discussed during the volunteer interview 

  • Setting up and putting away furniture and activity equipment before and after the session 

  • In all roles you will be engaging with young people, but there is a specific role of providing a friendly ear during ‘Chill and Chat’ sessions- this can be discussed during the volunteer interview 

  • Supporting the delivery of sport activities outside (such as football or basketball) 

 

Skills we’re looking for 

  • A friendly and approachable attitude to create a welcoming space 

  • A willingness to attend youth work and safeguarding training 

  • An interest in supporting young people in your local community  

  • Comfortable in engaging with young people who may be under stress or in difficult situations 

 

What you’ll gain 

  • Improve your confidence and interpersonal skills 

  • Make a positive impact in the lives of young people 

  • Develop skills in youth work and receive an up-to-date DBS certificate 

 

Please note: This activity is run by St Barnabas church. There will be Christian focused conversation, activities and teaching. Being sympathetic towards the Christian values of the church and participating with the children in these activities is an expected requirement of this role.
