St. Chad’s Church in Patchway is looking for an enthusiastic local choir and/or theatre leader who would enjoy the opportunity of developing their existing choir and/or kick starting a theatre group in the church’s spaces. Experience leading a professional choir or theatre is not necessary, but musical knowledge of well-known songs and plays would be preferable. This can be taken on as two separate roles or as one role for the right volunteer.

Number of roles available: 2

Weekly hours: 1-2 evenings per week depending on if the volunteer takes on one or both roles.

Location: St Chads Church, 172 Rodway Rd, Patchway, Bristol BS34 5ED

What you’ll be doing

  • Selecting choral repertoire and leading rehearsals for the existing Choir for Wellbeing that meets on Fridays 7-8pm and drama repertoire

  • Collaborating with church staff and volunteers to develop the on-site theatre

  • Engage with members of the local community to participate in theatrical performances

  • Select theatre performances and manage rehearsals

  • Organise choral and theatre performances for the local community

Skills we’re looking for

  • Musical and/or theatrical knowledge

  • Confidence in selecting repertoire and leading a group in rehearsals

  • An enthusiasm for music/theatre and community participation

  • Previous experience leading a choir or drama group would be preferred

What you’ll gain

  • Experience supporting a church in launching and growing their community engagement activities

  • An opportunity to utilise your music and/or theatre skills

  • A chance to express your creativity while supporting the surrounding community

How the church and Bristol diocese will support you

  • Training and onboarding support when you first start volunteering

  • Regular check-ins to ensure you’re enjoying and feel supported in your role

  • Invitations to participate in community events including a chance to celebrate you and other volunteers’ achievements during volunteers’ week

Please note: This volunteering role will take place in a church. There will be prayers and/or Christian conversations, but you and other volunteers would not be expected to participate. Being sympathetic towards the Christian values of these activities would be necessary, but it is not required that volunteers are Christians themselves.

To apply, please contact  volunteers@bristoldiocese.org or contact St. Chad’s Church on 01179793978.
