Do you enjoy working with young children and helping them learn through play? St. Chad’s in Patchway is at an exciting time in its development and is looking for an experienced, creative volunteer to help kickstart their in-house toddler group. This will involve planning activities alongside church staff, and leading a team of volunteers for acivity delivery with the help of the diocese volunteering team. It is preferred that applicants have previously worked with young children or are studying towards a qualification involving early years or childcare.

Number of roles available: 1-2, dependent on availability

Weekly hours: Thursdays 9:00-12:00

Location:  St Chads Church, 172 Rodway Rd, Patchway, Bristol BS34 5ED

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and setting up fun and engaging activities for pre-school children aged under 4

  • Working closely with the Bristol Diocese volunteering team to recruit and onboard volunteers to help you run the activities

  • Acting as the lead volunteer for activity delivery

  • Co-ordinating toddler group volunteers, managing their rota and maintaining relevant communications via email or phone.

Skills we’re looking for

  • Experience working with children or working towards a childcare or early years qualification is preferred but not a requirement

  • The ability to lead and collaborate with others as a member of a busy team

  • Good organisation skills to manage the Toddler Group Volunteers rota and communications

  • Someone who can attend regularly and consistently

  • Passionate about supporting and engaging with children through play

  • As with all roles working with children, attending safeguarding training would be necessary

What you’ll gain

  • An opportunity to create fun, engaging activities for young children

  • Gain experience managing other people and leading activities

  • Improve your confidence and interpersonal skills

  • Receive up-to-date safeguarding training and a DBS certificate

How the church and Bristol diocese will support you

  • Training and onboarding support when you first start volunteering

  • Regular check-ins to ensure you’re enjoying and feel supported in your role

  • Invitations to participate in community events including a chance to celebrate you and other volunteers’ achievements during volunteers’ week

Please note: This activity takes place in a church. There will be prayers and/or Christian conversations, but you and other volunteers would not be expected to participate. Being sympathetic towards the Christian values of these activities would be necessary, but it is not required that volunteers are Christians themselves.
