Cost of Living : Community Response

Become a Cost of Living Volunteer - Opportunities listed below

The rising cost of living is affecting a huge number of people living in our city. Bristol City Council and Can Do Bristol is working to support citizens and communities most impacted, as well as those who have not faced financial challenge before but now find themselves struggling.

The rising cost of living crisis will increase poverty and while we cannot prevent this we can support one another through it. We are One City and we must pull together, just as we did in response to COVID-19. This page will help you find volunteering opportunities in your area where you can give back and support your community.

We are looking for volunteers to help with Bristol’s community-led response. We are encouraging residents and community organisations to take action in their own neighbourhoods so you could help make a difference where it matters most.

If you need advice or support for yourself Bristol City Council has launched a cost of living support hub online, providing guidance on topics including housing, bills, benefits, employment and skills, and mental health and wellbeing. Please share this webpage with others and encourage anyone who needs support to reach out. We Are Bristol.

If you are interested in being a cost of living volunteer, below are the current roles available with local organisations. Click on each activity to read more info and apply.

Applications Invited: Cost of Living Social Action Small Grant, September 1st 2022

Bristol City Council is working with the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector (VCSE), partner agencies and Quartet Community Foundation to help communities manage the impact of the cost of living crisis by funding the development of support networks, online and in-person community-led events or activities and online and in person welcoming spaces.

The Cost of Living Social Action Small Grants will support activities and events in neighbourhoods that address the impact of the cost of living crisis, increase social connection and help the community access support and advice. This could include making and delivering community wellbeing packs, supporting community-led groups such as community kitchens, and providing training for volunteers.

We are also working with community organisations across the city to open a network of welcoming spaces for people in Bristol and the grants are available to support the setting up and development of these. The money could be used to enable the spaces to provide support for resident-led activities such as cookery, craft or games. The funding could be used to extend opening times, and provide facilities for residents to re-charge devices and access the internet or a computer.

The aim of the grants is to encourage a community-led response, strengthen links between people and encourage residents to take action together in their neighbourhoods, sharing their skills, knowledge and interests to help one another.

For more information and eligibility criteria, visit the Quartet Community Foundation website.

Our cost of living support hub on the Bristol City Council website provides advice and guidance on your mental health and wellbeing, as well as help with housing, bills, benefits, employment and skills and much more.

Get involved in activities, share on social networks, or if you are running a Welcome Space and need volunteers yourself.
