Bristol Community Festival announcement from Councillor Williams

Bristol Community Festival: Celebrating Social Action and Community Power

I am delighted to announce the start of the Bristol Community Festival, a two-week programme of events dedicated to celebrating social action and the power of community in our city. With over 50 events to choose from, this festival is a chance for everyone to connect with others and make a difference in their local area.

Why Social Action Matters

Bristol is built on the strength of its communities. Whether it’s grassroots organisations providing vital services, or neighbours supporting each other through tough times, social action is at the heart of what makes this city thrive. Studies have shown that strong communities improve mental and physical health, reduce isolation, and build resilience—something we have all witnessed first-hand during the challenges of recent years.

A Festival for Everyone

Over the next two weeks, you can take part in a huge variety of events, from hands-on community projects to discussions about the future of our city. Whether you want to join a clean-up in your local green space, learn about neighbourhood regeneration, attend a creative workshop, or simply connect with like-minded people, there’s something for everyone.

Some festival highlights include:
  • Community Gardening & Greening Projects – Helping transform local spaces into thriving green areas.
  • Arts & Culture for Social ChangeShowcasing how creativity can bring communities together.
  • Panel Talks & Workshops – Conversations on civic engagement, equity, and neighbourhood resilience.
  • Skill-Sharing & Training – Practical sessions on leadership, activism, and organising for change.

Building a Stronger, Fairer Bristol

The Power of Us, a recent public health report, emphasised the crucial role of community-led initiatives in improving wellbeing across the city. From groups tackling social isolation to local food networks improving access to healthy meals, the evidence is clear: when communities take the lead, everyone benefits.

However, community power isn’t just about good intentions—it needs investment, collaboration, and commitment from all of us, including local government, businesses, and residents. That’s why I encourage you to see this as an opportunity to engage long-term in your community. Or go beyond attending these events, and use them as a stepping stone for long-term engagement in your community.

Join the Movement!

Bristol Community Festival is more than just a celebration—it’s a call to action. Be part of the change. Attend an event in your local area or at City Hall, start a conversation, or volunteer for a cause that matters to you.

Let’s work together to build a stronger, more connected, and more empowered Bristol. I look forward to seeing you at the festival!
