Glenside Hospital Museum (GHM) is excited to invite applications for new Trustees to join our dynamic Board. Previous Trustee experience is welcome, but not essential. We are looking for individuals who share our passion for mental health, education, heritage, and community engagement.

GHM is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and Accredited Museum. The CIO Board of Trustees is critical to setting and overseeing our vision, mission and values, and in supporting the freelance staff team and volunteers to implement our projects and programmes, and keep the museum open to visitors.

If you are ready to make a real impact and help shape the museum’s future, we encourage you to apply.

The CIO Board of Trustees is critical to setting and overseeing our vision, mission and values, and in supporting the freelance staff team and volunteers to implement our projects and programmes, and keep the museum open to visitors. You don't have to have previous experience of being a Trustee to join us, nor do you have to come from a mental health or museums background. A passion for our vision and mission is the most important requirement.

Key Responsibilities as a Board Member
With fellow Trustees and freelance staff you will be involved in the following activities to support delivery of our mission and vision, while developing our sustainability and resilience:

  • Attend four in person Board meetings a year (evenings at the museum)
  • Contribute actively to specific task and finish groups as appropriate
  • Volunteer stewarding at least twice a year
  • Oversee and assist in the development and delivery of strategic forward plans
  • Help to update policies and procedures on a regular basis
  • Proactively develop relationships with potential supporters
  • Attend exhibition openings and other events
  • You will be appointed for three years with anan option to serve for a further three.

You will need to be able to dedicate 6-8 hours a month for this role.

If you are inspired to apply, we would be delighted to hear from you. Applications will take the form of a CV and short supporting statement. Please download our recruitment pack on our website:for more information about the museum and the role and to apply.

Closing date: Sunday 18 January 2026

We anticipate the Trustee Roles commencing late February. There will be a initial 3-month onboarding period for all roles, giving both the trustee and the organisation time to confirm alignment and build relationships.
