Ablaze offers weekly 1:1 reading support to pupils in primary schools across the city to help them develop confidence and improve their fluency and comprehension. There is a huge demand for volunteers to support children for 30 minutes weekdays after lunch in schools. The children and schools we work with are so appreciative of the support and the sessions are fun and rewarding.
We support pupils in schools generally in less advantaged areas of the city with a high percentage of pupils in receipt of pupil premium or with English as an additional language.
Volunteers will recieve full training on how best to support a child's reading as well as safeguarding and child protection training. All volunteers need to have an enhanced DBS certificate which Ablaze will process for you. We are also on hand to support and answer any questions you have during the programme.
