Ablaze is a local independent charity that provides a variety of corporate volunteering opportunities for  groups of volunteers aimed at tackling inequalities of opportunities for young people and boosting their key skills. (www.ablazebristol.org)

2026 is the National Year of Reading and we are looking for new businesses across Bristol and the supporting areas who would like to offer their staff/employees the opportunity to support primary school aged pupils with their reading skills in a fun and friendly way.

Our Reading Partners program is a weekly/fortnighly opportunity for your staff to work with a child on a 1:1 basis in a local school, listening to them read and developing their confidence, fluency and comprehension.

We have lots of local schools waiting for business volunteers to support them. (We are looking for groups from 4 - 20+ volunteers per school) There is a huge demand for volunteers to support children for 30 minutes on weekdays, term time only, in schools. The children and schools we work with are so appreciative of the support and the sessions are fun and rewarding.

We generally support pupils at schools in less advantaged areas of the city with a high percentage of pupils in receipt of pupil premium or with English as an additional language and will match your business with a school no more than 20 minutes from your offices, so you are making a difference in your local communities.

Ablaze will support you and your volunteers throughout the programme:

  • Volunteers recieve full training on how best to support a child's reading (no previous experince needed)
  • Safeguarding and child protection training.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate which Ablaze will process for you (valid for 3years).
  • An impact report at the end of the programme.

We request your business/volunteers commit to at least 12 weeks of volunteering, so they have chance to get to know the children and offer meaningful support.
