We are looking for a Marketing Volunteer to join our team!

We started a community garden project at Hillfields Park, 2 years ago.

Since then we have expanded a lot and we now need a helper to spread the word of the amazing work we are doing!

We have big plans for this year including the creation of a wild flower meadow, accessible raised beds and seating. We have a programme of events booked in; a spring fair, winter lantern parade.

There are lots of regular groups running; a menopause group, wellbeing group, kids nature group.

Together we have loads of skills, enthusiasm and a passion for nature. We meet monthly for socials (if you're into that kinda thing) and we have team meetings where we share ideas and plans. It's a real team effort, everyone plays their part in the running of the garden and we support and encourage each other! Most of us are mums who work other jobs so we are flexible in when and how we work on the project.

Project Background

Parks have a crucial role to play in supporting community health and wellbeing and they have huge potential to respond to the climate and ecological emergencies in our cities. Hillfields Community Garden is an exciting new project in Hillfields Park which is transforming the park, making it more welcoming for everyone. We have recently received some funding which means that the garden will be expanding next year. We need help and enthusiasm from a marketing volunteer to keep the garden thriving.

The Role

We need a dedicated volunteer who can play a key role in developing a marketing strategy which shares our story to ensure local people know about our groups and events.  You will be responsible for maintaining our social media accounts, sending out a monthly newsletter, creating posters and promoting our groups and events.

There are currently 4 groups which run regularly in the garden, you will be part of a wider team where we share ideas and plans for the seasons ahead. We currently have team meetings once a month which have been held during an evening on video call. The ideal person will be able to attend these meetings and will have the skills needed to grow with us as we develop and expand the garden over time. Hillfields Community Garden is a much-needed resource in the area, this will be a rewarding role for the right person.

Being the Marketing Volunteer will involve:

  • Developing our Facebook and Next Door social media accounts so that we are posting regular updates about the garden groups and events.
  • Creating a monthly newsletter which goes out to people in the community.
  • Attending meetings with the wider team about plans and events at the garden.
  • Communicating with the wider team to ensure our successes are celebrated.
  • Creating feedback forms and collating feedback from sessions.
  • Attending events where possible.

You will be…

  • Experienced in marketing, possibly having worked with community groups before.
  • Having an interest in gardening and building strong communities.
  • Confident in communicating in different styles on a range of platforms.
  • A team player, keen to help make the project a success.

We will provide…

  • Ideas and encouragement from a supportive team.
  • The chance to make a difference to the local community.
  • The chance to meet new people and make friends.

Feel free to email us with any questions.

Look at our Facebook for more info about the project.
