The Impact for Nurturing our Students: Our sensory garden is a vital sanctuary for our children. For many of our pupils, the traditional classroom can be overwhelming; this garden provides a "low-arousal" outdoor space where they can engage their senses through touch, smell, and sight in a controlled, therapeutic way. By clearing the overgrowth, refreshing the walls with clean paint, and adding vibrant colour to our boundaries, you are directly creating a safe, accessible haven. This environment is essential for nurturing our students' emotional regulation and physical development.
Time Commitment & Timing: We are looking for a dedicated group for 1 to 2 full days. It is essential that this work takes place during school holidays (half-term or summer). This allows for "noisy" work and painting to happen without disrupting our pupils' routines, ensuring the space offers a "magical new beginning" for them when they return.
Volunteer Tasks:
-
Restoration: Intensive weeding and leaf clearing to make pathways safe for those with mobility aids.
-
Revitalisation: Painting rendered walls to brighten the environment and providing high-contrast visuals for pupils with visual impairments.
-
Colourful Fences: Painting the wooden fences in bright, joyful colours to transform the playground into an inviting and stimulating space.
-
Sensory Prep: Preparing soil beds for our next round of aromatic and tactile planting.
Frequency: While this is a one-off project, we are eager to build a lasting relationship. We would love to find a partner willing to assist with an annual seasonal reset to keep this specialised, nurturing environment in top condition for our club.
Donations: As a school, our budgets are tightly focused on direct student support. While we provide basic tools, any donations of white or pastel masonry paint, colourful outdoor wood stain, sturdy brushes, or outdoor solar lights would be incredibly valuable.
