Project Background
Parks have a crucial role to play in supporting community health and wellbeing and they have huge potential to respond to the climate and ecological emergencies in our cities.
Hillfields Community Garden has made a massive impact in the local area since the project started in 2019. We have planted over 300 trees in the park, we have an orchard, a wildflower area, a bug hotel and 8 raised beds growing fruit, flowers, herbs and vegetables. We have big plans for next year and we are now looking to grow our team. We have a regular programme of events and groups, we have a kids nature group, a wellbeing group, a women’s group and a volunteer group.
We are a core team of approximately 10 people, most of us have families, jobs and busy lives so it’s important to us that the work we do is fun and social. We have monthly team meetings and quarterly socials.
The Role
We need a dedicated secretary who can support the chair and co-chair in ensuring the smoothing running on the project. The Secretary is responsible for managing the overall administration of the project, organising our monthly meetings and supporting the wider team to fulfil the objectives of the project.
There are currently 4 groups which run regularly in the garden, you will be part of a wider team where we share ideas and plans for the seasons ahead. We currently have team meetings once a month which have been held during an evening on video call. The ideal person will be able to coordinate and schedule these meetings as well as taking the minutes and circulating them to all members. Hillfields Community Garden is a much-needed resource in the area, this will be a rewarding role for the right person.
Being the Secretary will involve:
- Coordinating our monthly meetings – checking availability and setting up a video call link, gaining input for the agenda and sharing the agenda ahead of the meeting.
- Taking minutes during the team meeting to record our actions and updates, circulating the minutes to all members and ensuring any actions are followed up.
- Working in partnership with the wider team and attending groups and events where possible and when desired.
You will be…
- Experienced in admin and minute taking, possibly having worked with community groups before.
- Organised and enthusiastic along with an interest in gardening and building strong communities.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and ideally Google Drive.
- A team player, keen to help make the project a success.
We will provide…
- Ideas and encouragement from a supportive team.
- The chance to make a difference to the local community.
- The chance to meet new people and make friends.
