Our Community Culture Day will showcase a range of resident-led activities from different ethnicities and cultural groups in Speedwell - to bring communities together and celebrate the diversity of our area.
Local people will be sharing their skills through workshops and demonstrations - including cookery, dance and drumming - and revealing more about their cultures through art, costumes/textiles, food and music as well as stalls selling their produce and crafts. Expect to travel to exotic places through a fusion of sounds, tastes and colour!
Community groups will also have the chance to run information stands and activities as well as offer volunteering opportunities which could help make changes in the area and encourage residents to get more involved in local issues affecting them.
There will be a space to share memories and stories about Speedwell for our Community Connections project - part of a shared theme with neighbouring community centres The Haven and The Beehive. Together we are producing a video ‘Neighbourhood Stories’ with residents local to our centres which will be shown at our individual events – to increase interest in our area, its people and traditions.
The Community Culture Day will be an accessible event welcoming all ages, with family-friendly activities including a bouncy castle, art activities and face painting.
This is event didn’t receive funding from Bristol City Council to take part in Bristol Community Festival.
