Time commitment:

Role
We are looking for a dedicated volunteer who can help by supporting our nature sessions for early years children. You will work alongside the Nature Learning Leader to deliver weekly fun activities in the garden including gardening, crafts, games, songs, and other seasonal activities in a local group called Mini Explorers.
About us
Hillfields Community Garden (HCG) is a small, local charity set up to bring the people of Hillfields together through community groups and activities. We are quite unique in that we operate from a public park and are open 24/7. Green spaces have a crucial role to play in supporting community health and wellbeing and they have huge potential to respond to the climate and ecological emergencies in our cities. Underpinned by the five ways to well-being and nature connections, our regular groups and events bring the community together and provide significant learning opportunities as well as enhancing the biodiversity of this ward. This volunteering role will focus on supporting the early years children’s nature sessions.
Supporting Children’s Nature Sessions will involve:
- Helping set up the space before the session with resources, and packing down at the end of the session.
- Engaging and interacting with children through play and activities in the outdoor environment once a week.
- Working alongside the Nature Learning Leader to ensure children’s health, safety and well-being needs are met.
- Communicating with event attendees during the session to provide advice and make the session enjoyable.
- Helping to enhance the nature of the park through activities.
This group is also attended by parents and carers of children attending.
You will…
- Be experienced, passionate and have an interest in working with young children.
- Have a passion and interest for sharing learning of nature and the outdoors, in every kind of weather.
- Bring a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive approach.
- Have good communication skills.
- Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Bring an understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Be willing to undertake a DBS check.
