We believe volunteering in Bristol should be open and welcoming to residents of all backgrounds – whether they’re born and bred Bristolian, or have arrived more recently as a Refugee or Asylum Seeker.
That’s why we have a badge on Can Do that designates which volunteering opportunities provide the appropriate support for anyone who has sought asylum in the UK.
Previously, this badge was called the ‘Refugees and Asylum Seekers Welcome’ badge. However, we wanted people to know that all the volunteering opportunities on Can Do are welcoming and inclusive, not just those with the badge.
Therefore, we are relaunching the badge as the ‘Supported Volunteering for Refugees and Asylum-Seekers’ badge to better describe what it does. It identifies which organisations have completed additional training and offer appropriate support (such as travel cost reimbursement) for any volunteers with experience of seeking asylum.
This means that refugees can use the badge to filter for opportunities where they can be sure they will receive the appropriate support and sensitivity, if they wish to.
It also means organisations can earn the badge to demonstrate their social values and make their volunteering opportunities stand out more.
If you’re an organisation and are interested in applying for the badge, we strongly encourage you to apply! You can find the criteria for being awarded the badge here.
Happy volunteering!
