Our goal at Va de Viaje is to reduce the education gap for Central American women by supporting them to access higher education through international scholarships and technical support throughout the process.

Central America is the poorest of the three regions in the Americas. Limited by regular natural disasters, political crises and poverty, fewer than 50% of Central Americans are able to access higher education. Of this already small group, fewer than 40% are women.

Access to higher education in Central America is still a matter of privilege and economic resources. Most women are unable to afford higher education and local scholarship opportunities are very limited. Despite hundreds of international scholarships available to them, information is scarce, inaccessible in Spanish and women rarely have a mentor or peers to accompany their process to apply.

Va de Viaje recognises this disparity, and offers focused support to young women and adults to access higher education in international universities. We achieve this by compiling high quality, easy to understand and relevant information of scholarships opportunities as well as emotional and technical support during the application process. Va de Viaje also serves as a platform where previous Central American scholars can inspire, connect and support aspiring scholars.

We are a feminist and 100% female-led movement committed to empower women from Central America to transform their own futures and increase representation of women in academic settings. We are a friendly and highly motivated team of two volunteers from Central America, one of them based in the UK. We launched our Instagram account in March 2021 and since then more than 750 women have learnt about 20+ scholarships for education and professional opportunities, productivity and self-love and get inspired by 15 Central American women. Currently, 7 women are receiving mentorship in the application process to scholarship in countries such as the UK, Canada and South Korea.
