Quality Assurance Engineer, UK Ministry of Defence, July 2024 to present
Within my current role I am a technical specialist in one of the MoDs quality assurance teams.I help to ensure that my assigned projects are delivered safely and give the tax payer value for money. As part of my day to day role I help to deliver audits and work on continuous improvement. Due to the sensitive nature of the work carried out I cannot provide specific detail outside of the organisation. Within this role my duties are as follows:
- Supporting internal Audits, engaging with stakeholders across
the programme to investigate areas of uncertainty
- proposing opportunities for improvement
- Utilising appropriate metrics and tools to report levels of MoD
technical assurance to the Programme Integrator

Scientist at the National Physical laboratory, Teddington, July 2023 to July 2024
Working as a scientist in DIMMET providing measurement services work in the optical laboratory. As an NPL employee my work helps support UK industry in delivering work that might not otherwise be cost effective or offered in the private sector.The majority of my work is delivered using Zygo and 4D technology systems to give customers traceability to the SI system of units. A large proportion of my work is in support of the ophthalmic and defence industries. I also represent my department in the NPL community open day 2024. Within this role my duties were as follows
- Measurement of precision optics and producing calibration reports to conform to customer needs
- Perform laboratory work and ensure compliance to ISO 17025 through regular audits.
- Ensure That NPL is able to deliver cutting edge measurement through the procurement of new scientific equipment that helps meet our customers standards.
- Assess customer needs through technical documentation such as drawings or ISO standards.
- Liaising with suppliers for the acquisition of new equipment that meets NPL’s internal specifications

Calibration Engineer for Avon Dynamic Calibration, Bristol, January 2018 to June 2023:
Within this role I ensured the day to day running of both the gauge block interferometry and screw thread metrology services within Avons ISO 17025 dimensional lab. I acted as the first point of contact for customers and end users for these services. While working in the lab I carried out measurement of gauge blocks and screws using a wide range of equipment such as floating carriages, surface tables, profile projectors, IAC Master scanners as well as dimensional standards like plain ring gauges and length bars. I also worked alongside the inspection team for thread measuring and flatness metrology using first principle methods.
My duties included:
- UKAS signatory for length measurements
- Carrying out internal audits to ensure compliance to ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
- Lead the inter laboratory schedule between other ISO 17025 labs
- Providing technical consultation and project support to a wide of customer from the UK defence and aerospace industry and overseas metrology labs
- Wrote procedures and uncertainty budgets for new metrology practices
- Procured new equipment for both internal use in the lab and for customers.
- Trained new staff in calibration practices
- Allocation of work in the absence of the technical manager

Hobbies and interests:
I love playing computer games and have even built my own gaming PC. Outside of gaming I love hiking with my friends or going out to gigs in Bristol. I am also an active member in the Bristol branch of the SOBS charity.
