About
Currently studying interdisciplinary humanities, I would like apply my knowledge and writing skills to community-based initiatives.
I am currently a final year undergraduate at the University of Bristol, studying liberal arts. My studies specialise in modern global history and cultural studies, with a particular interest in postcolonialism, decolonising knowledge systems and thinking about democratising knowledge.
I have experience writing and editing for university newspapers and external magazines. I have been Travel Editor for the student newspaper, and published a variety of work including travel accounts, commentary, documentary reviews and personal pieces on a range of platforms. I would love to furthe apply and develop these skills with other content-writing opportunities.
Past voluntary work includes assisting with 'welcome' sessions at BHN, a Bristol-based refugee charity, and working as a classroom assistant in a non-profit primary school in Guatemala. More recently, I have helped with the marketing of a community art exhibition in Bristol. Other work experience includes part-time employment in the hospitality sector, and several years tutoring music, swimming and GCSE-level Maths and Science.
My interests in community initiatives include:
- improving access to education and the humanities in particular
- fair land use, especially access to green spaces and allotments
- any efforts to alleviate the housing crisis Bristol is suffering
- climate justice
