About

We empower families of 0–25s with SEND through support, resources, and collaboration to improve access to timely local services.

We are a registered charity based in Bristol. Founded in 2011 by parents of children with SEND, we strive to capture the parent carer voice to ensure they are used effectively in coproduction efforts with local SEND services, across education, health and social care. Our Mission statement Bristol Parent Carers empowers families with children and young people aged 0-25 with SEND, through peer support, signposting, essential resources and collaborating with local SEND services to establish comprehensive provision, ensuring prompt and appropriate delivery of services across the city to meet needs at the earliest possible stage. We do this by: - hosting peer to peer support sessions offering guidance and signposting to local SEND services - hosting training led by practitioners in various areas of SEND, to ensure that local families receive information and support tailored to their specific needs. - forging strong partnerships within the local diverse community, enabling us to provide valuable feedback to local SEND service leaders. This input contributes to shaping the services provided by across education, health and social care, ensuring that available services better align with the needs of the families they serve. Our vision is for families to feel empowered, with the right support, at the right time, in a manner that best suits their needs. We imagine a future where SEND processes are effortless and stress-free (for services and families), providing families with the necessary resources and understanding to confidently navigate the path before them. Collaborating with Bristol SEND services, including the local authority and regional health services, as well as local SEND charities and other organisations, is key to making this vision a reality. By incorporating parent carer feedback into our work, we strive to continually enhance the services available to all. We believe that together, we can shape a more positive future for SEND families in Bristol. We aim to bring co-production to the forefront of service partnerships by promoting equality, diversity, accessibility, and reciprocity, ensuring that all voices are heard, and all efforts are genuine and authentic.
