About

Working young people and their families

Bristol Horn youth Concern is a Community Interest Company, incorporated in 2020, but started by and for the community in 2012. We were formed to primarily, but not exclusively, to support young people aged 11 - 19, and more recently young people up to age 25 and the broader community of Inner City East Bristol, Ashley Ward, St Pauls, St Jude's, Easton and Lawrence Hill areas. The majority of the people we support are from the East African and Somali diaspora. welcome all communities and ethnic groups, and have targeted support activities for both young males and females. We operate after-school and holiday sessions for 48 weeks each year, offering open access, free of charge, sports [football, basketball] sessions; arts and crafts; cooking and hospitality programmes, and alongside these a well-developed mentoring scheme which delivers CV writing, interview techniques, leadership skills and access to intern schemes with local employers and like-minded VCSE organisations. Our overarching aim is to provide positive opportunities for young people by providing safe spaces to reduce the risk of gang initiation, anti-social behaviour and knife crime. We also operate targeted outreach sessions four/five days a week which reach out to 18 - 25-year-olds and are delivered in areas of high crime, anti-social behaviour hotspots, and estates in the St Pauls and Easton areas. We also strive to maintain a strong presence in Stapleton Road, targeted to, in particular, young females. All our staff and volunteers undertake a minimum annual safeguarding training and are DBS accredited. We also have staff members who are based in the exclusion units of three local secondary schools and have recently started working with a fourth local school.
