From Saturday 6 to Saturday 13 June, the second Bristol Community Festival will take place, where everyone can get involved, celebrate social action and reflect on the power shown by our local communities throughout the city. This year’s festival builds on success from last year and with over 25 events for people to choose from, it’s a great opportunity to connect with others and see how individuals and groups are making a difference in their local area.

In Bristol, I have had the privilege of seeing many inspiring examples of community spirit, where organisations and people have shown up for one another to make a difference, helping to encourage lasting change. I firmly believe we are a city that builds on the strength of our communities and those leading the way, many of which are part of the festival this year, are committed to keeping this city thriving and as a place where everyone belongs.
A festival for everyone
Over the festival week, there are a range of events being held in each corner of the city, from art exhibitions and lunches to film screenings and award ceremonies. Some highlights include an outdoor storytelling event in St Werburgh’s on Thursday 11 June, an art workshop led by the Bristol Eastern European Community CIC in Lawrence Weston and a community cook-out hosted by Heart of BS13 on Friday evening. There is even a youth‑focused mural project taking place on Sunday 7 June in Hartcliffe where young people aged eight to 14 will be combining art and environmental learning in one space.
Nikolina from BS13 Ignite Young People shared why she’s excited to be supporting the festival:
“Being part of Bristol Community Festival gives us the chance to create positive spaces for young people in BS13 through events that bring people together, celebrate diversity and strengthen community connections. Community action is important because young people need more safe, welcoming and affordable spaces to connect, socialise and feel part of their local community. We hope people leave feeling connected, included and inspired to meet new people, celebrate different cultures and get more involved in their local community.”
There is so much happening, with too many events to list so please go to the festival programme and take a look through to see what is happening near you.
Join in and take action!
We see Bristol Community Festival as a call to action, where anyone can be a part of it, in whatever way they want to. It might be that you just want to find out more about what’s happening near you, have more conversations with people in your neighbourhood, spread the word about social action amongst friends and family or perhaps you might volunteer your time to help something you care about. If and however you choose to get involved, together we can look forward to a stronger, more connected, and more empowered Bristol.
