Summary
We are recruiting for a team of volunteers (aged 18-25) to advise and support the planning and development of a new public building. This project will be overseen by our Youth Board.
As a user-led charity, we believe that our community should be involved in decisions that affect them. As such, we are very interested to hear from young disabled people who have turned 18 or have recently experienced becoming an adult.
Volunteers must identify as disabled or have a long-term health condition.
This includes hidden disabilities, such as mental health and/or people with learning disabilities.
What you be doing?
- Using your lived experience to help shape how the new building will look and feel.
- Attending monthly panel meetings (these will be held online at a time that works for the group)
- Attending meetings organised by Bristol City Council.
- Attending online training including Disability Equality, Access Audit and Public Speaking/Meeting Etiquette.
- Listening to the views of disabled young people in Bristol.
- Representing the voices of disabled young people in Bristol.
- Providing feedback and communicating the opinions of young disabled people directly to Bristol City Council.
- Visiting the new building site (this will depend on Covid-19 restrictions)
- Learning and sharing how technology can be used to improve access for disabled people.
We are looking for people who:
- Are aged between 18-25
- Are based in Bristol.
- Are enthusiastic and willing to attend training.
- Have an understanding or a willingness to learn about Disability Equality and the Social Model of Disability.
- Can work in a team and make decisions as part of a team.
- Have good communication and listening skills.
- Believe that young disabled people should have a say in decisions that affect them.
This role would also suit someone who is looking for experience in Public Policy, Youth Participation, Trusteeship, Accessibility or Community Engagement.
