CATHEDRAL WELCOMER VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION

Role

Cathedral Welcomer (Museum of the Moon)

Purpose of role 

To make visitors feel welcome in the Cathedral, to direct them to the Track and Trace sign in and other information and to secure donations for the Cathedral.

Time commitment and rota arrangements 
Either:  a full week 17 – 21 Aug or 24 – 28 Aug

Or: A minimum of four three-hour shifts during the exhibition (12 – 30 Aug).
         Shifts:         Typically 9 – 12 am or 5 – 8 pm or 7 – 10 pm.
                             Some afternoon shifts are available.

Duties of role

  • You will represent the spirit of hospitality and welcome to all, that reflects our Christian tradition.
  • You will be assisting visitors with basic information about the Museum of the Moon and the Cathedral eg. location of the Café, toilets etc.
  • You will direct visitors to the guides available.
  • You will encourage visitors to leave a donation via the card reader or cash boxes. Encourage local visitors to feel a sense of belonging in their


Training in all aspects of the role will be given: please plan to attend a training session at the Cathedral at 6:00 pm on Tuesday 10th August.

 

 

 

What experience/skills will you need for the role

  • Ability to give a warm and generous welcome to all who come through the door.
  • Ability to interact with members of the public, sensitively but assertively.
  • Ability to work as part of a team of volunteers/staff on duty within Cathedral.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time.
  • Aged 16 or over.

  • Opportunity to work in an historic Grade 1 listed building on College Green, parts of which date back to 12th Century
  • Opportunity to be part of the events (concerts, talks etc.) which the Cathedral is hosting as part of the Museum of the Moon.
  • Experience that could be relevant and useful to a personal CV. (For young people who would like this, we will be happy to provide work experience statements useful for UCAS references etc. to your school).
