Brislington Welcome is bringing a refugee family to the UK under the Home Office's community sponsorship scheme. We are a group of people based in South Bristol who are working together to build a supportive network, raise money and find a house for the family. We currently have a core group of ~6 individuals with a wider support community who get involved on an ad hoc basis.
We have made good progress and have raised the funds required prior to applying for a family. Our next key challenge is finding suitable housing for a refugee family and therefore we are currently specifically looking for volunteer(s) to support us in identifying and exploring opportunities. This person would ideally have an existing network within Bristol to help us identify opportunities for housing that is affordable for a family qualifying for Universal Credit.
Outside of this, we're also looking for volunteers to support in areas including volunteer management and fundraising. Once the refugee family arrives, we'll need volunteers to help teach them English, drive them to appointments and make sure they feel welcomed to south Bristol. We'd love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved. You do not need to be based in Brislington.
