SUMMARY:
We're seeking enthusiastic, reliable people to train as a Child Safety Tour Guides to work with small groups of 3-4 children at our amazing safety education centre. This fun, unique term-time role comes with flexible hours to suit, full training and support, plus we'll cover any out of pocket expenses.
ABOUT LIFESKILLS:
Lifeskills is a safety education centre and charity delivering various safety training programmes. Our main programme is our Year 6 Primary Schools Programme, where children (age 10/11) visit with their class. In small groups they'll take a tour around the centre accompanied by a volunteer Guide.
We're built as a realistic village - a huge "film" set with 19 different "hazardous" scenes (including a road, beach, dark alleyway, shop and even a railway platform).
Lifeskills offers children an exciting, memorable and safe environment in which to learn about life's common dangers and we’re reportedly known as being the most enjoyable trip in the primary school calendar! Due to high demand, schools book their morning or afternoon visit a year in advance, which is testament to our fantastic, dedicated team of volunteers. However, we need LOTS more volunteers to cope with increasing demand so do feel free to volunteer with a friend!
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Guide (alongside a team of up to 14 other Guides), you'll conduct a tour of the centre and escort your group of 3-4 Year 6 children through each realistic scenario (lasting around 1½ hours).
With the aid of a script (as well as using props, lighting and sound effects), you’ll encourage the children to get involved in spotting lots of hazardous situations, in a variety of day-to-day situations. You’ll also deliver safety messages so that they can leave knowing how to live much safer, healthier, more independent lives.
This is a fun, hugely rewarding role and our volunteers tell us we’re a great organisation to work for! Once fully trained, you can choose to cover as many/few sessions as you wish, although we do ask for a minimum commitment of 2 sessions per month.
We also offer:
- flexibility to work a regular pattern or ad-hoc (we're open Monday – Friday term time only)
- choice of hours (morning session is 9:30am – 12:00pm, afternoon session is 12:30pm – 3:00pm. If covering both sessions, we'll reimburse your lunch cost at "Create Cafe")
- full induction training which can be completed at your own pace, as well as ongoing support
- travel expenses
- Lifeskills uniform
- free tea, coffee and biscuits
- an area to socialise with other volunteers
If you’re punctual, reliable and you'd like to work with children, we’d love to hear from you.
