Friends of Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve need your help
Two very long-standing committee members, as well as the chair are retiring in September.
The 3 remaining committee members are young and lead busy lives with full-time jobs, families & study.
They can't do this alone and need your help!

What we're looking for...

Committee members - ideally we're looking for new committtee members who can contribute to all the great work the committee does to make the reserve such a special place.
·      Chairperson - with appropriate handover from current chair

·      Grant applications

·      Memberships

·      Webmaster

·      Social media

·      etc....

Volunteers - there are plenty of ways you can help including...
·      Newsletter editor

·      Managing the delivery of the Newsletter (Needs Excel)

·      Getting the Newsletter printed

·      Arranging notices in the Messenger, BS9 magazine, etc.

·      Writing notices for the boards at the Reserve & putting them up.

·      Putting up the banner on the Reserve gate prior to Working Parties.

·      Taking refreshments to Working Parties

.      Writing articles for the Newsletter, long or short!

·      Minutes secretary

Maintenance of parks and open spaces is not a statutory obligation!

BCC have always put minimal resources into the reserve and in the last 12 years cuts to council funding have made this worse.

The Friends play an essential role in the maintenance and improvement of the reserve.

Examples of what the Friends do / have done.

·      General maintenance

·      Grant applications including for lake restoration and new paths

·      The Millennium path

·      The Dipping platform

·      Benches

·      Tree planting

·      Hedge planting

·      Fencing

·      Notice boards / signage

·      Paying third parties for work the council can’t do

·      ….and the soon to be new path along the side of the lower paddocks

Were it not for the Friends .......

·      Without continued management by the Friends group, the reserve will lose the unique habitats that make the site so special, as well as its Local Nature Reserve status.

·      There would be an invasion of scrub, lack of general maintenance and loss of flowers

·      No educational activities or information

·      A rapid decline into a space we no longer recognise.

If you think you can help, even in the smallest way please email me by reply (fospnr@gmail.com) AND please forward this to anyone you think could help us.
