We are looking for volunteer Restorative Justice facilitators to work across Avon and Somerset!
Restorative Justice can help provide a means of closure to victims of crime and their offender(s).
It can help victims of crime or anti social behaviour to have a voice and to feel heard and for offenders to understand the impact of their actions and change their behaviour.
Restorative Justice provides an alternative way of dealing with an offence or incident, which focuses on the needs of the individuals involved. Restorative Justice can be used in a variety of situations from anti social behaviour to the most serious of crimes. It can also be used at any stage of the criminal justice process.
Our Restorative Justice facilitators support and guide clients throughout the process. They help people to feel safe, at ease and fully prepared. They give people an opportunity to communicate directly or indirectly to discuss what happened. It can help people to gain understanding, describe their feelings and ask questions. Most importantly it can help repair the harm caused.
Key Tasks
- To meet with victims and offenders of crime or others where harm has been caused virtually and/or in person and discuss restorative approaches to making amends. (Please note all cases are virtual at present using Zoom)
- To listen to clients and help decide on restorative interventions which are appropriate to the needs of both parties.
- To facilitate communications between victims and offenders using appropriate methods such as facilitating direct or indirect communication between the victims and offenders, writing restorative letters or letters of apology or bringing both parties together in a joint meeting setting.
