The Mencap Visiting Service was set up in 1963 to provide a lifelong visiting service for people with a learning disability after their parents pass away. Volunteers visit their beneficiary 6 times a year, either in the person's home or out and about in the community. No previous experience needed.
We are looking for volunteer visitors for Bruce, Mary and Moyra. They all like different things but all 3 are able to go out and about and would like to do that with you.
Bruce lives in Eastville and loves going out for coffee and a bit of people watching. He's quite artistic and likes to draw pictures.
Mary lives on the other side of Eastville Park. She goes to a drop in centre with her friends Monday to Friday but would love to go for a cup of tea later in the afternoon or at the weekend. She loves football and is a bit Bristol City fan. Perhaps you could go to a match together?
Moyra lives in Keynsham with some people she's known for over 40 years! Moyra would love to go out for the odd glass of wine with you.
We provide full training and support to get to know your beneficiary and throughout your time as a volunteer.
You don't need any previous experience of learning disability. Just an open mind and a caring nature.
