Help us to welcome in the Year of the Snake at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery!

We are looking for volunteers to help us greet the many visitors, run craft and heritage activities at Lunar New Year (also traditionally known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival).

The event is very colourful, joyful and exciting, and the biggest new year event in the Southwest of England. There will be plenty of opportunities to engage with families and others and perhaps to take part in the spectacular performances.

Volunteers representing China and other countries that celebrate Lunar New Year are very welcome to volunteer, as are volunteers from other backgrounds. Training will be provided to run activities such as discovering Chinese inventions, Lunar New Year traditions, and dressing up in traditional costumes. We have writing materials for volunteers able to help visitors to write a few greetings in Chinese.

Possibly our most popular volunteer role is dressing up in one of our 3 cute panda costumes!

If you would like to take part in our performances, please contact Karen Garvey on karen.garvey@bristol.gov.uk

When:

Saturday 8th to Sunday 9th February, 9:00-17:00. The morning briefing for volunteers will be held at 9:00.

Volunteers can sign up for 1 or both days. We are particularly looking for volunteers on Sunday 9th.

Duties Include:

  • Meet and greet visitors to the event
  • Supporting our stall holders with activities (such as paper folding)
  • Supporting the Sensational Snake family crafts activity in the school's room
  • Running our museum stall on Chinese inventions and Lunar New Year Traditions
  • Running our dress up stand with traditional costumes for children
  • Supporting the crowd management for our performances in the galleries
  • Gathering visitor feedback through surveys
  • Dressing up as one of our 3 pandas
  • Supporting the donations ask
  • Any other support as and when required by the visitor experience team.

All volunteers will be assigned to duties prior to the event. If there is something you really don't want to do, please let us know in advance.

Please note: You must 18 or over to volunteer for the event.
