We are an independent local charity, working across Bristol and the surrounding areas and affiliated to National Mind. Our vision is to support everyone in and around Bristol in achieving the best mental health possible. We have an excellent reputation in our region and deliver a range of impactful services that are often transformational for people in our community.
It is fair to say we are currently a relatively small charity, but we are ambitious to reach more people across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. As our Treasurer, you will work closely with the Board, CEO and Head of Finance to help us achieve this ambition. As part of this, you will also have the chance to contribute to our new three-year strategy 2026 – 2029, which is currently under development.
At Bristol Mind, our commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is at the core of everything we do. We are actively working towards representing our diverse communities across our organisation and welcome difference as the key to unlocking creative and responsive services.
The opportunity
We’re looking for a trustee with a background in finance to take on the role of Treasurer from December 2025.
Trustees are our most senior leaders. They set our strategic direction, make sure we’re using our resources effectively and ensure we’re having the greatest possible impact on our community. Trustees are expected to undertake duties in a manner that reflects Bristol Mind’s values and ethos.
As part of the Board, you will determine the strategy and development of Bristol MIND, safeguard and promote the values of the organisation, be effective and accountable as a Trustee and contribute to the Board functioning effectively.
As Treasurer, in the addition to the above, you will have an overview of organisational financial activities; chair the Finance and Fundraising Sub-Committee; make recommendations to the Board on financial matters and ensure that proper financial procedures and records are maintained in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic and ambitious candidates to help make our mission a reality and lead us closer towards our ultimate ambition: a society where everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.
As a trustee, you will receive:
- Opportunities to develop new skills.
- Induction and training into the role.
- Your expenses reimbursed.
- An annual appraisal to help support your development.
Time commitment
The trustee role is voluntary with expenses paid, a commitment of approximately 10 hours per month. Four board meetings per year take place - currently virtually via video conference and we have two strategy days that we attend in person. In addition our Treasurer chairs our Finance and Fundraising Committee which meets four times a year.
To Apply
We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and being a place where all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental health problems and from all ethnic, socio-economic, neuro-diverse and professional and personal backgrounds. Whether you’re an experienced trustee or taking your first steps into governance, if you have the commitment, values, and skills, we want to hear from you.
