Legs4Africa is a Bristol-based charity. We deliver prosthetic legs and train amputee counsellors to help rehabilitate their peers in mobility centres in Accra. However, within inland Ghana, there are currently no counselling services, let alone for those with disabilities. We want to expand our project in the North so more people with limb differences can benefit from medical care and peer counselling. Our project enables independent living for amputees so that they may reclaim their place in local communities.
I was hoping to find people who would like to be involved in a fundraising event we have going on between midday on the 29th of November and midday on the 6th of December.
We are doing a telethon to raise money for this
matched donation campaign week which is raising money to expand our work in Ghana by increasing the areas that our Peer Support and Counselling services run.
We are going to get a group of people together in our Workshop in Stokes Croft to phone previous donors and people that we have a relationship with to ask them to get involved and donate. All of them will be informed that the phone call is coming and will have the option to opt out, so we are hoping they will mostly be pleasant calls with people keen to chat with us.
On the weekdays the phoning window will be 5.30-9.00pm, and on the weekend it will be between 10am and 8pm. Obviously, this is a large amount of time, so I am asking if you would be able to give up any amount of time during the evenings of that week or the weekend to help us raise money for the Ghana project.
We would provide dinner in the form of takeaways (likely pizza a fair amount, but not every evening), and some rounds of drinks at a local bar after the phoning sessions to unwind.
