We Are Listening, a national charity tackling loneliness and social isolation through telephone and letter befriending.
We are currently looking to recruit 10 volunteers for our Good Call telephone befriending programme.
The role is completely home-based. Each volunteer is carefully matched with an older person who is experiencing loneliness or social isolation and provides them with a friendly telephone call for around one hour each week, with a minimum commitment of six months.
The volunteer’s activities include:
* Making a regular weekly telephone call to their matched client.
* Providing friendly conversation, companionship and a listening ear.
* Building a consistent and supportive befriending relationship over time.
* Helping the client feel more socially connected and less isolated.
* Following our safeguarding, confidentiality and professional-boundary procedures.
* Keeping in touch with our team and taking part in regular reviews of the match.
Volunteers are not expected to provide counselling, therapy, crisis support or practical care. We provide training, safeguarding guidance and ongoing support, and volunteers complete our recruitment and safeguarding checks before being matched.
Time commitment: 1 hour per week, remote, minumum 6 month commitment.
