Introduction:
Age UK Bristol are seeking community-focused individuals aged 50+ to train as Tai Chi instructor volunteers. This exciting role involves 2 in-person training workshops with additional home learning and practice to complete the Shibashi 1 course. Once qualified volunteers will lead, either individually or in partnership with another volunteer, Tai Chi classes for older people in the community or online. We are seeking a commitment to deliver classes for a minimum of 1 year.

Purpose of Tai Chi Shibashi Instructor Role
- To lead, either individually or in partnership with another volunteer, Tai Chi Shibashi classes for older people in the community or online
- To work in partnership with Age UK Bristol to record class attendance so we can report the impact of our work to our funders
- To administrate the technology so that online classes run on time, and everyone connects with the class
- To encourage an enjoyable experience
- To ensure a safe environment during the class
The qualities and skills required for this role are:
- A commitment to developing community activities which support health and wellbeing
- Experience of working within a community or group setting
- Confident in leading or talking to groups
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to set a welcoming atmosphere
- To be part of a peer support group with other Tai Chi volunteers, to share experiences, good practice and knowledge.
- Ability to access support from the Age UK Bristol team if required, attend essential training and volunteer support sessions.
Training
Tai Chi Shibashi 1 training will be provided by Tai Chi for Better Health.
Age UK Bristol will offer induction training into the work of our organisation and regular support for volunteers.
Hours
We are currently asking for a minimum of 4 hours per week
Location
This role is based in the home of the volunteer if providing online classes or within community venues around Bristol for in–person classes. We are particularly focused on the South Bristol area.
