Why volunteer with St Peter’s?
St Peter’s Hospice is a local charity which provides care and support for those living with a progressive life-limiting illness and their families in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset area both at the Hospice and in the community.
What will my role include?
This is an opportunity to volunteer directly with our patients and their loved ones as a volunteer driver. You will be:
- Driving your own car under your own insurance to collect and deliver patients to and from the Hospice
- Be involved in other journeys for example bringing loved ones to the Hospice for visits or patients to local hospitals for appointments
- Potentially could be driving our Hospice Mobility Vehicle collecting patients in wheelchairs
What qualities do I need?
We’re looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated volunteers who have a few spare hours a week to commit to our great cause. Here are some other key skills we are looking out for:
- You must be aged 18 or over to volunteer as a volunteer driver
- Interest in driving
- Enjoy interacting with people
- Able to work under times of pressure
- Good time keeping
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and committed.
- Open to learning, know your own limits of skills, work within them and know when to ask for help.
- Flexibility
- Well presented, friendly and polite
- Able to work on your own within boundaries
How much time do I need to commit?
We would ideally be looking for a set day per week, the hours are usually between 10am and 3pm. But the role can be flexible around your other commitments; we can work together to find a time which best fits in with your lifestyle. We also are looking for a pool of ‘Relief Volunteers’ who provide cover for holidays and sicknesses.
What are the benefits of volunteering with St Peter’s Hospice?
There are plenty of benefits to volunteering with us these include:
- Experience volunteering within a Bristol based charity, building links with your local community and learning new skills
- The satisfaction of supporting our patients and their families during an incredibly difficult time
- The opportunity to meet other volunteers and staff across the Hospice and be part of the team
- St Peter’s Hospice is a well-established and respected charity in the Bristol area; it can be a real boost to a CV when applying for jobs in and around the city
Where will I be based?
You will be driving across various areas of Bristol as we support people across a wide area, but you will start the day at our Hospice in Brentry (Charlton Road, BS10 6NL).
