The Plus Importance Project is a newly registered charity that improves understanding and inclusion of people in the + of LGBT+, defined as “sexualities, gender identities and sex characteristics including, but not limited to, asexual, genderfluid, genderqueer, intersex, non-binary, pansexual and queer”. We provide training and support to organisations, educate the public and conduct research on identities in the +.
As a Social Policy Volunteer of the Plus Importance Project, you will help us advocate for people in the + of LGBT+ to have equal legal rights and representation. Help us influence decision-makers so that they are aware of gaps and limitations in current guidance and legislation, and so they consider the + community when making decisions. This role requires a time commitment averaging at least 1 hour per week.
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to our responses to local and national consultations
- Sourcing evidence to inform, build and support our policy positions on various topics
- Identifying campaigning priorities and creating effective campaigns
- Identifying relevant stakeholders, consultations and opportunities where the charity can have a positive influence
- Analysing local and national policy and how it affects people in the + of LGBT+
- Supporting the wider work of the Plus Importance Project
Person specification:
Essential:
- Experience of analysing information
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Passion for the work of the charity
- Personal or professional interest in the work of the Plus Importance Project
Preferred:
- Experience of campaigning and/or influencing others
- Knowledge of current legislation and/or local and national government
