Role overview
We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic volunteer who will commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week, to oversee our social media platforms, newsletter and blog. This is a really exciting opportunity for someone who has an interest in pursuing a career in public relations and marketing within the not-for-profit sector. By raising our online profile, the successful candidate will help us raise awareness of the amazing work we do.
This is an exciting time to join the organisation. We have recently launched a series of new specialist wellbeing groups aimed at children and families that are affected by social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) issues. The ‘Glow’ project was set up in response to the demand for imaginative expert support for children and young people at both primary and secondary school age, and their families. The social media volunteer will work closely with our part time admin/comms assistant to create visual, eye-catching content to promote our new services and raise our online profile. This might include images, posters and videos. The more creative the better!
A bit about us
We work with children and young people at both primary and secondary school age who are disadvantaged because of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. They often have a diagnosed mental health condition or are waiting for a diagnosis, and it is often correlated with a history of trauma or psychological distress, or another disability, learning need, or physical illness. Many of the children we work with are also affected by issues such as domestic violence, abuse, identity issues, bullying and many are young carers.
Whilst each child is affected differently, common issues that we see are: Problems accessing school either through non-attendance, or difficulty focusing and thriving at school, difficulties making friends leading to significant social isolation, issues with confidence and self-esteem which can lead to difficulties leaving the house or even their rooms for days at a time, suicidal attempts or ideation, self-harm, difficulties accessing support and help from statutory services, and panic attacks. Such disadvantage has long term impact on outcomes in education, mental health, health and employment.
We want to make three key differences:
- Improved mental health.
- Reduced social isolation
- Increased ability to thrive at school.
Your priorities will include:
- Creating content for our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- Creating content for and managing our monthly newsletter and blog.
- Using Hootsuite to schedule and plan social media content.
- Monitoring and reporting on performance on social media platforms.
- Reviewing and responding to comments.
Ideally, you will have:
- An interest in education, mental health, families and young people.
- A belief in and commitment to our values.
- Ability to use initiative and be able to work without supervision.
- Ability to think and work creatively.
- Knowledge of the functions of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- A passion for communications and marketing in the not for profit sector.
- Ability to commit to at least 6 months with us.
What you will gain:
- Valuable experience for your CV.
- A detailed reference.
- Opportunity to develop into a decision-making role.
- Chance to be part of a lovely warm and supportive team.
- Opportunity to turn your passion for communications and marketing into real positive change for a small not for profit where every person is capable of having profound impact.
