Prison - Independent Monitoring Board

A volunteering opportunity with a difference!

Inside every prison there is an Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) - a group of ordinary members of the public doing an extraordinary job.

Our role is to observe day-to-day life within the establishment, to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained, and to see that prisoners are prepared for their eventual release into the community. Members have unrestricted access to the prison; a typical monitoring visit, for example, might include time spent in the accommodation blocks, kitchens, education and recreational areas, and healthcare.

IMB volunteers are unpaid and undertake an average of 2-3 visits per month.

HMP Ashfield is a specialist rehabilitation prison located in the village of Pucklechurch, South Glos. on the outskirts of Bristol.

We are currently recruiting new members to join our small team. To find out more about this fascinating and rewarding role visit:

The recruitment code is 1195/Ashfield/2022 and the closing date for applications is March 6th 2022.
