We are looking to welcome new volunteers to join our friendly local Oxfam Bookshop and help in Oxfam's fight against poverty. As a volunteer, you will be the friendly face of our shop, welcoming customers, donors and visitors to the shop while providing a high standard of customer care. You will be an essential part of Oxfam's mission in raising funds for those who need it most in the world.
We don't look for previous experience, however we do ask that volunteers are honest, reliable and trustworthy with a positive approach to volunteer work. All new volunteers will receive a full induction, showing you the best shop practices and how to work safely as well as ongoing training and support to make sure you are confident and comfortable in your new role with us. Usually, volunteers join us for at least one four hour shift each week, but any time you can give us will be much appreciated!
This is a great opportunity if you are looking for hands-on retail experience, to boost your CV, meet local people in your community, or even just to have fun doing something great for those in need!
This role involves:
- Serving customers at a modern electronic till point, ensuring items are processed for sale
- Giving our customers a high-quality experience in our shop so they come back to us time and time again
- Talking to the public about Oxfam's work or about the benefits of volunteering
- Being part of a like-minded, friendly and diverse shop team
- Working with shop managers and fellow volunteers to keep the shop looking great
- Helping with a wide range of questions, sales, refunds and assistance
- Taking on other shop responsibilities such as health and safety, assisting in stock takes and visual merchandising, online listing, sorting and pricing.
Volunteering with Oxfam will give you the skills, confidence and experience you need to build your CV and boost your employability. Problem solving, communication, working with others and familiarity with the workplace are universally valued by employers.
