North Somerset Breathing Space for Carers
At St Peter’s Hospice, we know that no one understands the challenges of
caring for a loved one better than someone who has lived it themselves. That’s
why we’re looking for people like you, people with compassion, resilience, and
the unique insight that comes from either personal or professional experience.
As a North Somerset Breathing Space for Carers Volunteer, you’ll make a
meaningful difference to carers who are providing intensive support to
someone with a life limiting illness. Many carers rarely get a moment to stop.
You can give them that moment.
What you will be doing
- Offering a listening ear.
- Offering a moment of calm with simple mindfulness exercises.
- Offering a gentle grounding touch through simple hand massage.
The skills you need
- Good communication and active listening skills.
- Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude.
- Willingness to learn and take guidance.
- Able to work on your own within role boundaries.
- Comply with Hospice policy including maintaining patient and carer
confidentiality. - Demonstrate our hospice values of excellence, collaboration, compassion,
respect and passion in every aspect of the role. - Not to have suffered a recent close bereavement.

At SPH we think that as much of the money we raise as possible should go
directly to the patients and families we care for. However, we will reimburse
petrol, parking costs and refreshment costs.
