Are you a music connoisseur or an instrumentalist? If you see a musical instrument, you cannot resist playing a few notes on it or need to ensure it is tuned properly. Are you someone who cannot bear to see a neglected musical instrument?

If so, you will enjoy being our Musical Instrument Expert/Tester.

We’re fortunate to have a treasure-trove of donated musical equipment and we need your help to check through (and test out) the quality of the instruments to make sure they are ready to be sold on our eBay shop.

Instruments include guitars, recording equipment, mixing decks, speakers, string instruments, wind instruments and some that we need your eyes to help identify (see we told you we weren’t musical instrument aficionados!)

What you’ll be doing

  • Using your specialist knowledge to assess the health of the musical instruments to use and sell onwards (we’ll handle the latter)
  • Looking for damage, missing parts and quality checking the items so we can confidently list for sale
  • Testing the functionality of the equipment

You will be joining a bubbly team that is passionate about maximising the sales potential of the donated items. Your specialist knowledge and expertise will help us get the best out of the donated instruments. Furthermore, you will help musical lovers access reasonably priced preloved equipment. In return, we promise bottomless tea and unlimited biscuits while you volunteer with us.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we recognise that opportunities for too many people remain a condition of their race, class, sex, disability, sexual orientation – or a combination. This has never been acceptable to us as an organisation. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we do not just accept difference — we value it, we celebrate it, we nurture it, and we thrive off it.

We positively welcome your application irrespective of your background. We are on a journey, and if you join us, you will be part of a community that is committed make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer.

When :

This is a super-flexible volunteering role which means depending on the area of your expertise it might just be a one-off morning you come in and help us out, or if there are lots of instruments/equipment you have knowledge of it might be something you pop in and help us with over a few weeks. You will need to be available sometime on Monday to Fridays between 8 am -5 pm.
