We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Responders to join our team of Response Volunteers in Bristol.
In this role, you will provide emotional support to individuals within the community experiencing mental health challenges, listening with empathy and giving space for those who need to talk to freely express their thoughts and feelings.
This is a flexible and low-pressure role, yet highly rewarding. You'll get the opportunity to make a genuine positive impact within the community, joining a a friendly and diverse team of volunteers passionate about creating a zero-suicide society.
All volunteers receive there own Mental Health Responder vest to wear on shift, and after probation their own t-shirt and hoodie. Volunteers who successfully complete three months of volunteering will be enrolled in a Mental Health First Aid course (for free!).
Responsibilities
- Volunteer at least three hours a month. Shifts currently take place on Tuesdays (10.30-13.30), Fridays (19.30-22.30) and Saturdays (10.30-13.30). More shifts should be running soon.
- Confidently and effectively provide active listening, empathy and non-judgemental support to vulnerable individuals, many of whom are part of the homeless community.
- Commit to the role for a minimum of one year.
- Attend training days and complete training as appropriate for the role.
Skills
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with service-users.
- Be friendly and approachable, and confident speaking to vulnerable individuals from all walks of life.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Experience in the mental health sector is not essential for this role, as you will be given all the training you need to succeed.
