Over 5% of working age adults in UK struggle to read. Read Easy offers life changing help to adults who want to learn to read. The Literacy Specialist offers essential expertise to support this work.
Read Easy recruits volunteers to act as reading coaches to people who come for help, the 'readers'. Coaches meet with readers one to one and use reading manuals based on phonics but are also encouraged to adapt their approach to suit the individual learner. Groups of coaches are supported by coordinators who link them to readers in their area.
The Literacy Specialist, provides literacy support and expertise to the coordinator and reading coaches and takes a lead in running the reading coach meetings. They should have a background in teaching reading/literacy (preferably, but not necessarily, with adults). the Literary Specialist is also a member of the management team.
