We are excited to announce the launch of a new Police Cadet Unit in Bristol and are looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Unit Leader and Volunteer Cadet Leaders to help inspire the next generation!
No prior knowledge of policing is required, as we will provide all the necessary training and resources. You’ll be supported by local policing teams and the Citizens in Policing team, who will stay in regular contact to assist with any questions you may have. Additionally, you’ll have access to a handbook and toolkit for guidance and support.
About the Role
Our Volunteer Police Cadet Units offer young people aged 13-17 the chance to:
- Learn about policing and future career opportunities
- Support their community through meaningful projects
- Develop key life skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication. All in a fun and safe environment
As a Unit Leader or Cadet Leader, you’ll help plan and lead interactive sessions, ensuring cadets benefit from engaging activities that build confidence and knowledge. Meetings take place on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm (term time) at Kenneth Steele House, Bristol.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Deliver engaging weekly sessions and act as a positive role model for cadets
- Support cadets at community events, police station visits, and operational activities
- Create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where cadets can learn and share concerns
- Plan and prepare activities, including occasional weekend events
As a Unit Leader, you’ll take on additional responsibilities, including safeguarding duties, managing unit funds, and supporting Cadet Leaders.

Who Can Apply?
- You must be 18 or over (but not have been a Police Cadet in the last 6 months)
- You must have a three-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK

Recruitment Process
Application Deadline: Monday 7th April at 5pm
- Interviews & Assessments: You’ll be asked to deliver a 15-minute activity with cadets, followed by an interview (date TBC).
- References & Vetting: As part of our commitment to safeguarding, at least one reference must comment on your experience working with young people in a personal, voluntary, or employment capacity.
- Enhanced DBS check & Barred List Check required.
