BIAS, the Bristol Industrial Archaeology Society is looking for an independent examiner of its accounts for 2024/5. The role entails looking at the accounting records for the group and signing them off after identifying any anomalies. The actual acoounts themselves have already been prepared by the group's Treasurer.
The volunteer does not need to be an accountant but should have a good knowledge of bookkeeping. Much of the work can be carried out remotely.
Core Skills and Requirements for an Independent Examiner:
- A grasp of accounting fundamentals, especially as applied to small group accounting
- Familiarity with receipts and payments accounts or accruals accounts
- Ability to review financial records and identify inconsistencies, errors, or areas of concern.
- Independence: they must not be involved in preparing the accounts or making financial decisions
- The examiner does not need to be a member of a professional body but must be “independent” and have the relevant financial experience.
