If you come to the Greenway Centre on a Wednesday between 6-8pm, you will see one of our BIGGEST groups having a whale of a time. They are the Horizon Disability Friendship Group, a membership group for those with a disability run by a team of dedicated volunteers. This team requires one more volunteer to ensure the smooth running of the group.
What will volunteers be asked to do?
- Support members to connect with others in a group setting
- Support members in activities
- Ensure participant confidentiality at all times
- Keep Eve, the project lead, updated regularly and pass on any issues or concerns which may arise.
- Attend training sessions relevant to the role
- Report any safeguarding concerns
- Be able to volunteer at least twice a month
What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for in a volunteer?
Someone who is:
- Able to support people with physical disabilities or learning difficulties, many of whom may be very vulnerable
- Caring, sympathetic, patient and non-judgemental
- A good communicator
- A good understanding of the importance of boundaries and developing positive and helpful relationships
- Reliable
