We are looking for individual or teams of volunteers to build model sail boats that will race in the Bristol harbour festival on 18th July. Volunteers support four children to build a meter long pilot cutter. All parts and equipment is provided. The workshops are held on our ship in the harbour and in schools. No specialist knowledge or skills are needed all sessions start with a briefing. Sessions are led by us and supervised by teachers. DBS checks are not essential. 

Dates for volunteering events in Schools. 8:15 to 3pm (Times will vary)

  • 22nd May – Nova Primary
  • 2nd June – Horfield Primary
  • 16th June – Portishead Primary
  • 14th July – Minerva Primary

Dates for Volunteering events on the ship MV Balmoral 9:15 to 2pm (Times will vary)

  • 30th March - Crockerne Primary (Packet Boat Boat Trip optional)
  • 31st March - Crockerne Primary (Packet Boat Boat Trip optional)
  • 29th June - Christchurch Primary
  • 30th June - Ashton Gate Primary
  • 1st July - Ashton Gate Primary
  • 2nd July - Ashton Gate Primary
  • 3rd July - Ashton Gate Primary
  • 6th July - Avonmouth Primary (Packet Boat Boat Trip optional)
  • 7th July - Avonmouth Primary (Packet Boat Boat Trip optional)

Date for volunteering to help launch the children’s boats from a barge

  • 18th July - starts Nova Scotia Landing to ballast and load the barge at 10am. Transfer upriver to launch. Disembark Arnolfini or SS Great Britain 12:30
