We're creating a wildlife area on an allotment in St Georges as part of a project to create a green highway for wildlife between two green spaces.
If this trial project is successful, our goal is to create a crisscrossing web of green highways connecting green spaces, gardens and allotments across bristol.
The biggest clearing jobs on the site have been completed. We need help completing a number of smaller tasks before we can start digging a nature pond, laying a traditional Somerset hedge, sowing wildflowers or planting bushes and trees to feed birds, insects and mammals.
These tasks include:
- sifting scraps of plastic from soil
- digging out brambles
- moving an old, broken greenhouse
- removing a Fallopia baldschuanica (Russian-vine, mile-a-minute)
- moving some raspberry and redcurrant plants
Ideally, we are looking for a dozen volunteers to help us between 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday 20th of February.
If you can bring your own garden gloves, spade, secateurs and garden shears that would be very helpful.
