Looking for opportunities to get involved in wildlife, public engagement and events in 2023? You’ve come to the right place! It’s a crucial year for taking action to support nature’s recovery and the Natural History Consortium (NHC) and partners are running an exciting programme of events in the West of England region that we’d love you to be part of.

The Consortium is organising West of England-based activity for City Nature Challenge – the epic, global wildlife recording event taking place this spring from Friday 28th April – Monday 1st May. The annual challenge encourages people to record sightings of local wildlife including plants, trees and animals, on the iNaturalist app, contributing vital data to local and national conservation efforts. You will be assisting our team and members of the general public to give back to nature by recording the species they see around them - on guided nature walks or at busy hubs in key natural locations across the region. In the past, these have included Westonbirt Arboretum and Tyntesfield (National Trust). If you love spending time in nature or want to help others learn how to protect our planet, get in touch to find out what local volunteering opportunities we can offer during this year’s four day challenge. We provide help with transport and lunch.

Why volunteer for City Nature Challenge?

- Gain valuable events and nature-recording experience in the environment and wildlife sector
- Meet new people and connect with others interested in the natural world
- Get outdoors and discover new nature spaces and organisations across the Bristol and Bath region
- Get useful CV skills including public engagement, stewarding, events management, data collection, administration, and video & photography
- Give something back to the planet – whether it’s volunteering for a couple of hours, a couple of days or an entire event; any time you can give to support nature is amazing, and the earth thanks you for it!
