Project Overview:

Caring in Bristol’s Food Project’s goal is to use food as vehicle to support people with experience of homelessness maintain their tenancy. Through a variety of interventions, the project aims to support people in the areas of community integration, financial stability, knowledge of available services, confidence and self-esteem, and food security.

Hours: 3 (11:00-14:00)

Responsible to: Bristol Goods Staff

Location: Night shelter, 16 Little Bishop St, St Paul's, BS2 9JF)

Conditions: some manual handling

Please note: this is a voluntary role

 

Role description:

This role is key to ensuring we have the food we need for our service-users to choose from at our pantry-style drop-in sessions. It involves using the Caring in Bristol van to do a 11:00 pick up at the nearby FareShare warehouse, then helping sort and categorise the goods. The role is under the supervision of our Bristol Goods staff and involves no direct service-user contact.

 

  • Arrive at the Night Shelter (16, Little Bishop Street, St Pauls, Bristol, BS2 9JF) at the start time of the shift
  • Meet and greet the team
  • Use the Caring in Bristol van to drive to FareShare
  • Help sort the incoming food from FareShare
  • Collect the appropriate amount of ambient food
  • Help load the Caring in Bristol van with the food for that day’s session
  • Ensure the remaining food at the Night Shelter is packed away tidily in the correct place

Person Specification:

  • A good communicator
  • A team player
  • Practically minded
  • Able to drive the Caring in Bristol van
  • Clean driving licence
  • Has some knowledge of food health and safety protocols (Not essential)

 

What training & support will we offer?

  • 1:1 check in with each new volunteer at start of shift (inc. basic manual handling and introduction to the project)
  • Opportunity to join Caring in Bristol ongoing volunteer training (e.g. Safeguarding training)
  • Check in with coordinator at end of shift, in person or via phone
  • Any out-of-pocket expenses paid (for example, travel costs)

Please note, we will need you to send in your driver’s license and 2 x proof of address documents in advance of this shift so we can insure you on our van.
