We need volunteers to help run our community fridge and to pick up food from various supermarkets and cash&carry.
The Community Fridge is based in Henbury and Brentry Community Centre where anyone can access food from the fridge, freezer or crates in the foyer (subject to fair use).
1) Community Fridge Volunteer:
One volunteer role is to keep an eye on the fridge and to make sure the Community Centre is open so people can access the food easily.
The community fridge is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.30am to 2pm.
Volunteers may be required to signpost people to other services or take details to pass back to us if residents require more information or specific help.
2) Community Fridge Driver:
The second role will be to pick food up from either Tescos, Waitrose, Nandos or Bookers and bring this straight back to the Centre to be stored according to food safety requirements.
Access to your own vehicle will be required for this role.
Tescos and Waitrose collections are evening ones from 8 to 8.30pm and Nandos and Bookers are in the morning (9.30-12pm) and afternoon (2.30-3.30pm) respectively.
The food will then be put into the Community Fridge or in freezers in the Centre for storage to be used either in our cafe (to subsidise prices and use food that would have otherwise gone to waste) or kept back to refill the Commmunity fridge/freezer as and when needed.
Training and expenses provided:
- Training will be provided for food hygiene level 2.
- Petrol expenses will be paid in accordance with the HMRC current rate.
You may also be required to undergo a DBS check which will be paid for by the Charity.
