Caring in Bristol’s Food Project’s goal is to use food as vehicle to support people with experience of homelessness maintain their tenancy. Through a variety of interventions, the project aims to support people in the areas of community integration, financial stability, knowledge of available services, confidence and self-esteem, and food security.

Role description:

This role is key to creating a welcoming atmosphere for clients at the drop-in. The roles includes helping set up the drop-in, supporting staff to greet people as they arrive, explaining to clients the process of using the project if it’s their first time, offering any advice or support about the food, and signposting people to the Coordinator where necessary.

 

A typical shift runs:

  • Arrive at the Night shelter (St Paul's BS2 9JF) to help Bristol Goods staff load the van ready to travel to Imperial Apartments (or meet us at the apartments!)
  • Help set up the space for the drop-in
  • Greet clients as they arrive, marking them off the register of referrals
  • Explain how the drop-in works to the client, perhaps doing the shop with them if it’s their first time
  • Offer advice to clients around the food that particular week
  • Record any safeguarding concerns (if they should arise) and notify the Coordinator
  • Help close down the drop-in space at the end

Hours: 3.5 (15.30/16:00-19.00)

 

Person Specification:

  • A good communicator
  • Friendly and open demeanour
  • Enthusiastic about food
  • (Not essential) Some knowledge of adult safeguarding
  • (Not essential) Some experience volunteering or working with vulnerable people

 

What training & support will we offer?

  • 1:1 check in with each new volunteer at start of shift (inc. introduction to the project)
  • Opportunity to join Caring in Bristol ongoing volunteer training (e.g. Safeguarding training)
  • Check in with coordinator at end of shift, in-person or via phone
  • Any out-of-pocket expenses paid (for example, travel costs)
